Potter County Human Services has many in-home services which are available to older persons who are home-bound.
The
Pennsylvania Department of Aging, through its statewide network of 52 Area
Agencies on Aging, provides several programs covering a wide range of needs are
available, such as Personal Care, Home Support, and Respite services to
address the needs of frail, older Pennsylvanians. Further information on these
services, briefly described below, may be obtained through our Area
Agency on Aging.
Several programs covering a wide range
of needs are available such as: Homemaker Assistance for daily household
activities; Personal Care help for those who can't manage alone; Home Delivered
Meals prepared at a central location and carried to a person's home; and Home
Chore Services that help people with heavy cleaning or make minor repairs to
their homes.
Family Caregiver Support
It provides financial help for eligible
families to reimburse expenses for hiring help and/or purchasing consumable
supplies. Program also provides for home modifications and/or assistive
devises.
The Potter County Family Caregiver Support
Group (FCSG) meets the second Tuesday of each month at 2:00 pm at the St.
Paul's Lutheran Church Allegany & Borie Streets, Coudersport, PA. The FCSG is a support
group made up of caregivers, family members and friends of people 60 and over
who require caregiving. The support group meetings may focus on emotional
support and sharing experiences and may focus on education, with experts
speaking on various topics. The purpose of the support group is to recognize the
important role of caregivers and offer support, encouragement and information.

Home Health Services
Home health services, which are essential, but are not covered under
Medicare or Medicaid, may be available without charge or on a cost-sharing or
private pay basis. Your local Area Agency on Aging can help you find and select
the most cost-effective services available to you.
Personal Care Services
Personal care services are available by attendants trained to assist
disabled persons with key activities of daily living such as eating, dressing
and personal hygiene.
Attendant Care
This program provides 15 or
more hours of service a week for frail or ill elderly who require "hands
on" personal care and help
with daily living activities at home.
Home Support Services
Home support services are available to help with various household
tasks such as cleaning, shopping, minor home maintenance and running errands.
Home-delivered Meals
Home-delivered meals may be provided to people who are unable to prepare
meals for themselves or participate in group dining at a senior center.
Respite Care Services
Respite care services are available in many communities to help
caregivers who need a break from the often exhausting demands of providing home
care for extended periods of time. Respite care can e provided in a variety of
ways and time periods. It can be offered in the home or in and outside facility
such as an overnight respite care center or an adult day care program. Usually,
respite care is provided on an intermittent or temporary basis to substitute for
a caregiver who needs to get away for a while. For more information, contact

Special Volunteer Programs
Volunteer opportunities exist in several areas, such as delivering meals,
and Senior Center activities.
